SeaMonkeys: The Grand Tale
Chapter 1: The Birth of A Legend
Long before time had a name, in a galaxy far far away...
There lived a woman named Judy Gorpstein, she had a small home in central Texas where she lived with her three cats and husband, Gary. Gary was a man of few words and he came and went from the house to do mysterious business often. On a particular Thursday night in late February, Gary arrived at his house and his wife was shocked to see something she hadn't seen in years, his smile. Ever since the passing of Gary's childhood pet, a goldfish named Tinkles who had been getting up there in years, Gary existed in a state of guilt over killing the fish in a freak accident involving three watermelons and a jumper cable. Today was different, his smile bright as the morning sun shining through the stained glass windows of an old church. In his right hand was a small packet labeled "Sea-Monkey Eggs" and in his left was a small slip of paper with dark red letters.
"What does that say dear?", Judy asked as she eyed the paper curiously. She made out the words "I hereby forfeit.." before her husband crumpled the paper and put it in his pocket.
"It's nothing honey, nothing at all," replied Gary, clearly hiding something. But Judy could never know just how sinister the secret truly was.
"You need to get home earlier Gary, I was worried sick about you! We have a baby on the way for Christ's Sake!"
"I'm sorry, just got tied up at work, nothing serious." Gary crept over to the vacant fishtank in the corner of the living room. He took the strange packet and tore the top off, then he poured the contents into the tank.
"What kind of fish are those?" asked Judy, eager to make conversation.
"They're not fish, they're Sea-Monkeys, magical creatures I picked up from a man with a suit on the highway!"
"How much did they cost?"
Gary hesitated for a moment contemplating what to say.
"They were a whopping 0$. Can you believe that?"
"Thats amazing dear!"
A few months went by and Judy's due date approached. The eggs Gary had placed in the tank looked as if they could hatch any minute. Yes, spring was in the air and it seemed as if new life was popping up in all corners of the globe. As the days passed, Gary became increasingly uneasy. He wouldn't sleep, he wouldn't eat, he would spend all his time at the fish-tank. Before she knew it, Judy went into labor. At the hospital, Gary sat next to Judy, who was in the bed, with a blank expression on his face. He seemed unaffected by his surroundings. As the hours went on, a grim disposition set upon the whole hospital for seemingly no reason. All of Judy and the unborn baby's vitals seemed normal. But in the same way animals can sense a natural disaster approaching, everyone was on edge. Three midwives came and went, they claimed they would not deliver the "devil child" as they called him. Judy began to give birth, and the lights in the hospital started flickering and soon went out. There in pitch darkness, Judy delivered her child. Her stomach was ripped open from the inside out. Two devilish claws poked out of the gaping hole in her abdomen and two red eyes darted back and forth, adjusting to the dark room. Judy let out a bloodcurdling scream, the kind of scream that could make even the deaf flinch at the sound. Gary began to laugh, the same smile on his face as the day he came home with those cursed eggs and that piece of paper. "Okay sir, I went through with my end of the deal, you have my firstborn son, now hold up your end!" shouted Gary. Nobody responded to Gary's ramblings, however the child crawled out from Judy's stomach and raised his oversized claw. He stabbed Gary right in the chest with his long, bony, spear-like finger. "Give me your blood human!" The creature managed to croak out a few poorly formed words. He took his blood-soaked digit and wrote on the wall six letters. "M" "E" "L" "V" "I" "N". Two police officers burst through the door, but all they found was the aftermath of the vicious attack, and an innocent looking baby laying on the floor, crying.
